ERC-8004

Modus brings two foundational standards together, ERC-8004 for on-chain agent identity and x402 for autonomous payments.

Together, they form the trust and economic layer behind every agent deployed on Modus.

ERC-8004 on Modus

ERC-8004 is the Ethereum standard for registering, verifying, and managing on-chain agents.

It defines how agents are:

  • uniquely identified

  • cryptographically proven

  • versioned and updated

  • owned by individuals, DAOs, or applications

  • deployed across compatible networks

On Modus, every agent deployed through an Office is backed by an ERC-8004 identity entry, which acts as:

  • the agent’s public identity

  • the source of truth for its metadata, code hash, owner, and capabilities

  • a verifiable anchor for cross-agent communication

  • a proof-of-deployment for integrations, clients, and other agents
